The new version of the "Application Technical Specification for Decorative Limestone" has been officially released and implemented, providing comprehensive and unified regulations on limestone classification, performance indicators, construction protection, and applicable scenarios. Limestone, as the most widely distributed and abundant marine sedimentary carbonate rock, is mainly composed of calcite and calcium carbonate. It has low Mohs hardness, is easy to mine, cut, and has low processing costs. It is the most widely used economic basic stone in the construction and decoration industry.
Limestone has a uniform and delicate texture, mostly in shades of gray white, light gray, and dark gray. The texture is simple and uniform, and after polishing, it presents a soft matte texture. Its cost-effectiveness is much higher than that of marble and granite. In terms of physical properties, limestone has good alkali resistance, but it is also not an acid resistant substance. It will dissolve and weather when exposed to acid, and its frost resistance is average. Long term exposure to sunlight and rain will result in slow pulverization and aging. Standardize and clearly distinguish between decorative limestone and infrastructure limestone. Decorative limestone can be used for indoor cultural walls, antique walls, low-level wet stickers on exterior walls, garden landscape bases, and relief bases; Infrastructure limestone is widely used in the field of foundation building materials such as ground cushion, curbstones, and engineering backfilling.
Currently, with the large-scale promotion of urban renovation, rural construction, and municipal infrastructure projects, limestone has become the preferred material for large-scale economic decoration due to its low cost and easy construction advantages. The standard also requires that indoor decorative limestone must be treated with waterproof and anti fouling protection, and outdoor is only suitable for low rise exterior walls in dry and mild areas. Long term outdoor use is prohibited in areas with severe cold, freeze-thaw, and acid rain. Limestone and marble have similar appearances, but there are significant differences in geological properties, texture fineness, and luster grade. Limestone is a sedimentary rock with a simple and low-grade texture, while marble is a metamorphic rock with a high-end and warm texture. Overall, limestone is positioned as a widely used and economical decorative material for the general public. It is cost-effective and widely used, making it an indispensable natural stone for infrastructure and affordable decoration.
