The national building materials standardization department has updated the technical guidelines for the application of limestone decoration, and made new unified requirements for the treatment of cave and stone holes, protective construction, installation and reinforcement. Limestone, also known as aragonite, is a porous sedimentary carbonate rock formed in hot spring environments. The natural uniform pores are the primary structure formed by the retention of geological bubbles, rather than defect damage. The overall color tone is mainly beige, milky white, and light brown warm tones, with a light and loose texture. Its insulation, heat insulation, and sound absorption properties are far superior to those of dense stone.
Limestone has low Mohs hardness, poor wear resistance, and weak acid resistance. It is prone to accumulate dust, water accumulation, enlarged holes, aging, and dirt when used outdoors. The new version of the guidelines specifies that the mainstream application scenario of limestone is indoor decoration, and it can only be used on the exterior walls of low rise villas to a limited extent. The holes can be naturally preserved or artificially filled with dense surfaces. The natural hole surface has a unique retro texture and is an iconic decorative material of European, Mediterranean, and Italian light luxury styles. It is widely used in hotel lobby walls, living room background walls, entrances, Roman columns, styling lines, and other spaces.
The guide emphasizes construction standards: the loose texture of limestone has low strength, and installation must be reinforced with a back mesh; Penetrating protection must be applied before use to prevent tea and stains from seeping into the holes that are difficult to clean. Limestone is lightweight, easy to cut, and easy to create irregular shapes. It has excellent processing performance and a soft light texture that is warm and not cold, distinguishing it from the visual effects of marble cold white and granite cold hard. The current demand for light luxury retro decoration is on the rise, and the demand for limestone in the market is steadily increasing.
