Recently, the new version of the national standard "Classification and Terminology of Natural Stone" has been fully implemented. This national standard strictly distinguishes marble, limestone, and dolomite from a geological perspective for the first time, clarifying that marble is a metamorphic carbonate rock with calcite as the main mineral, completely ending the industry's long-standing confusion in market classification and conceptual confusion. At the same time, the national stone testing agency released the annual natural stone safety monitoring report, which confirmed through years of large-scale sampling and testing data that the radioactive level of natural marble is far below the national limit for Class A indoor decoration materials, and the radioactive value is only one fiftieth of that of conventional indoor tiles, completely non-toxic and harmless, officially dispelling the long-standing rumors of harmful marble radiation in society.
In 2025, the total production of natural marble slabs in China showed a slight downward trend, and the industry as a whole shifted from extensive expansion to high-end quality development. The market structure is clearly differentiated, with prices of ordinary light colored marble steadily declining. The demand for high-end textured luxury marble and customized textured marble continues to rise. Soft and matte new processes are gradually replacing traditional high gloss mirror processes, which are more in line with the aesthetic trend of modern interior decoration. The industry's technology has been comprehensively upgraded, with the widespread use of nano penetration protection, back mesh reinforcement, and ultra-thin composite board technology, effectively improving the natural defects of low Mohs hardness, acid resistance, easy color bleeding, and easy cracking of marble.
The national standard also clarifies the application of mandatory regulations: marble belongs to carbonate material, with extremely poor acid resistance. It is prone to corrosion, loss of light, weathering and powdering when exposed to acid rain and acidic cleaning agents. It is strictly prohibited to use it in outdoor outdoor exterior walls, square floors and other long-term sun and rain exposure scenarios. Marble is only suitable for warm and luxurious indoor spaces such as interior walls, background walls, living room floors, stair treads, washbasins, door frame lines, etc. With the continuous release of demand for improved housing and high-end decoration, marble water jet cutting, irregular shapes, and customized textures have become the main growth directions of the industry. This national standard revision and safety certification comprehensively standardize the entire process of marble mining, processing, protection, and application, promote the standardized, green, and high-end transformation of the marble industry, and continue to consolidate its position as a core material for indoor high-end decoration.
